Gulzar clinches bronze in Islamic Games wrestling

LAHORE: Pakistan earned a proud victory on the international stage as wrestler Muhammad Gulzar secured a bronze medal in the 97kg category at the Islamic Solidarity Games in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on Friday.
Gulzar delivered a commanding performance throughout the event, showcasing remarkable strength, discipline and determination that highlighted Pakistan’s growing presence in international wrestling.
Gulzar reached the bronze medal bout after defeating his Afghan opponent in the repechage round. In the crucial medal match, he put on an exceptional display against Turkey’s wrestler, winning 5–4 and securing the result through a fall. His performance not only earned him a podium finish but also lifted Pakistan’s flag with pride at the global event.
Pakistan Wrestling Federation (PWF) hailed the achievement. Federation President Arshad Sattar praised Gulzar’s success, calling it a moment of national pride. He acknowledged the support of the Pakistan Sports Board and the Pakistan Olympic Association, noting that their cooperation played an important role in preparing the athletes.
Secretary General and national coach Inam Butt congratulated Gulzar and his family, emphasizing that the victory reflected months of hard work, dedication and top-level training.
He described the achievement as a historic milestone for Pakistan wrestling.
Following his win Muhammad Gulzar shared the effort behind his medal, crediting the intensive three-month training camp in Gujranwala under coach Inam Butt’s supervision. He said the camp significantly improved his skills and preparation and he expressed gratitude for the guidance he received.
Gulzar dedicated his medal to the Pakistan Army’s Operation Bunyān-e-Marsūs, stating that the victory was for Pakistan, its defenders and the martyrs who sacrificed for the nation.
With this commendable performance Gulzar has cemented his place among Pakistan’s top wrestlers inspiring confidence and pride across the country.
This is the third bronze for Pakistan which finished the Games with one gold, one silver and three bronze. The other bronze medals came in boxing through Fatima Zehra and Qudratullah while Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem secured gold and Pakistan No 2 javelin thrower Mohammad Yasir Sultan claimed silver.
