LAHORE: The franchise rights for the HBL Pakistan Super League’s most valuable team, Lahore Qalandars, will remain with the current owners for the next ten years following the renewal of their agreement on Monday.
The three-time and reigning champions were among the first franchises to extend their contract at the market value assessed by Ernst & Young, one of the world’s most respected audit and advisory firms. The comprehensive valuation process reaffirmed the franchise’s strong market standing.
This renewal reflects the growing confidence of all stakeholders in the brand value of the HBL PSL, which is set to expand to eight teams from its 11th edition next year.
PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi said:
“It gives me immense pleasure that Lahore Qalandars will continue under their current owners. Atif Rana and Sameen Rana have worked tirelessly to transform this franchise into a household name in Pakistan and a respected global brand. Their decision to renew is a testament to their belief in the power and appeal of the HBL PSL.
“Lahore Qalandars have consistently contributed to the growth and promotion of the HBL PSL and cricket across the country. The PCB looks forward to strengthening this partnership and advancing our shared goals for the development of the game.”
PSL Chief Executive Officer Salman Naseer added:
“The Qalandars’ passion, energy and belief in the HBL PSL have been instrumental in shaping the league’s spirit and inspiring millions of fans. We are thrilled to continue working with Atif Rana and Sameen Rana for the next decade.
“Their commitment to nurturing talent and elevating Pakistan cricket is commendable, and we look forward to building an even brighter and bolder future for the PSL.”
Lahore Qalandars have lifted three titles in the past four seasons under the leadership of Shaheen Shah Afridi, who currently captains Pakistan’s ODI side.
Meanwhile, the franchise rights for another iconic and influential HBL PSL team, Peshawar Zalmi, have also been renewed for the next ten years. The 2017 champions’ owners were among the first to secure an extension at the market value determined through Ernst & Young’s transparent and detailed valuation process.
The renewal further strengthens confidence in the HBL PSL’s sustained growth and rising commercial appeal ahead of its expansion next year.
PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi said:
“I am delighted that Peshawar Zalmi will continue under the leadership of Mr. Javed Afridi, whose professionalism, commitment and passion have transformed Zalmi into one of Pakistan’s most admired sporting brands.
“His vision has not only elevated the franchise but has also contributed significantly to the growth of the HBL PSL. The decision to renew reflects a strong belief in the league’s future and continued success.
“The PCB looks forward to building on this partnership to further advance Pakistan cricket.”
HBL PSL Chief Executive Officer Salman Naseer stated:
“Peshawar Zalmi’s energy, inclusivity and deep bond with fans have played a central role in defining the identity of the HBL PSL. We are extremely pleased to continue this journey with Mr. Javed Afridi, who has shown unwavering dedication to nurturing talent and strengthening the league.
“His forward-looking approach has been vital to the PSL’s evolution, and we are excited for what the next decade of this partnership will bring.”
Peshawar Zalmi remain one of the most followed and commercially successful franchises in the league, celebrated for impactful fan engagement and consistently strong on-field performances. They were also the most-watched franchise during HBL PSL X, underscoring their unparalleled connection with fans across Pakistan and beyond.
