RK Sports Management announced launch of first Women’s Sports Awards

By Alam Zeb Safi
KARACHI: RK Sports Management on Tuesday announced the launch of the country’s first dedicated Women’s Sports Awards, aimed at recognising and honouring outstanding achievements by female athletes across multiple disciplines.
The awards will be presented at a ceremony scheduled for April 2026, organisers said.
RK Sports Management has constituted a committee to oversee preparations and the selection process. Retired naval officer Commodore Sadeed A. Malik will serve as patron-in-chief while the committee includes Atif Iqbal, chairman of RK Sports Management; Irum Fawad, vice chairperson; Rais Khan, founder and president; and members Haji Liaquat Sheikh, Haji Akbar Sheikh, Xenab Ansari, Qurat-ul-Ain, Anita Nasir Khan, Shamsa Jabeen, Anita Jadoon and Aisha Hunani.
Atif Iqbal said the initiative marked a step beyond organising sporting events and reflected a broader commitment to recognising athletes’ achievements.
“Women make up half of the nation’s population, and they are contributing in every field, including sports,” Iqbal said. “Our women athletes are excelling in competitions at all levels, and these awards will serve as a source of inspiration for future generations.”
Commodore Malik said RK Sports Management had played an important role in promoting sports in the country and that the awards would encourage greater participation by women.
“This initiative will motivate young girls and women to take up sports more actively and pursue excellence,” he said.
Vice Chairperson Irum Fawad described the awards as a milestone for the organisation, noting that several initiatives had been launched since RK Sports Management was established, but this was the first dedicated exclusively to female athletes.
“The response to this announcement has been overwhelmingly positive, reflecting the need for platforms that recognise women’s contributions to sports,” she said.
Founder and President Rais Khan said the selection committee would evaluate performances across different sports and that awards would be conferred strictly on merit.
“Preparations for the ceremony are already under way, and we aim to honour deserving athletes at a grand event in April 2026,” Khan said.
Organisers said further details regarding award categories and nomination procedures would be announced in the coming months.
