LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Monday announced the schedule window for the 11th edition of the HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL), confirming that the tournament will be held from March 26 to May 3 next year, as preparations gather pace for a major expansion of the league.
PCB Chairman Syed Mohsin Naqvi said the upcoming season will be staged across multiple cities in Pakistan, continuing the league’s strategy of nationwide engagement while maintaining its status as the country’s flagship sporting event.
The board also confirmed that work is underway to expand the league from six to eight teams, marking the most significant structural change since the PSL’s inception in 2016. The expansion is aimed at broadening the league’s commercial base, increasing opportunities for domestic players, and strengthening the PSL’s competitiveness on the global T20 calendar.
As part of the expansion process, the PCB will conduct an auction for two new franchises on January 8, 2026, at the Islamabad Convention Centre. The franchise rights will be offered through a live-broadcast auction, a move the board said would ensure transparency and allow participation from potential investors worldwide.
“The live telecast of the auction will provide global access to investors and cricket fans while reinforcing confidence in the league’s governance and commercial model,” the PCB said in a statement.
The HBL PSL has continued to attract growing international interest in recent years, underpinned by strong broadcast figures, expanding digital reach and partnerships with global sponsors. The PCB said recent engagements with international stakeholders had reinforced confidence in the league’s long-term sustainability and commercial viability.
Officials believe the expansion will further enhance the PSL’s standing among the world’s leading T20 competitions, alongside leagues such as the Indian Premier League, Australia’s Big Bash League and England’s The Hundred.
The PSL has been widely credited with playing a key role in developing Pakistan’s next generation of international cricketers, while also providing a platform for elite overseas players to compete in a highly competitive environment.
With its blend of high-quality cricket, competitive balance and strong fan following, the PCB said the HBL PSL has firmly established itself as a premier global T20 league, with the expanded 11th edition expected to mark a new chapter in its growth.
