LAHORE: Pakistan’s seasoned batsman Fakhar Zaman has been fined 10% of his match fee for showing dissent at an umpire’s decision during the Tri-Series final against Sri Lanka on November 29, the ICC said on Monday.
Zaman was found to have breached Article 2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which relates to displaying dissent during an international match. One demerit point was added to his disciplinary record, his first in a 24-month period.
The incident occurred in the 19th over of Pakistan’s innings when Zaman argued at length with the on-field umpires after being given out.
He admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by match referee Reon King, avoiding the need for a formal hearing. The charge was laid by on-field umpires Ahsan Raza and Asif Yaqoob, third umpire Rashid Riaz and fourth umpire Faisal Afridi.
Level 1 breaches carry a minimum of an official reprimand and a maximum penalty of 50% of a player’s match fee, along with one or two demerit points.
Under ICC rules, four or more demerit points within 24 months are converted into suspension points, resulting in a ban. Two suspension points equate to a ban from one Test or two ODIs or two T20Is. Demerit points remain on a player’s record for 24 months before being removed.
