LAHORE: Lahore Qalandars’ long-serving all-rounder David Wiese will miss the Pakistan Super League (PSL) Season 11 after the franchise said on Monday that the South African-born Namibian has withdrawn due to unforeseen circumstances and family commitments.
Wiese, who has been associated with Lahore Qalandars for the past seven seasons, has informed the franchise of his intention to return in future editions of the tournament.
During his time with the Qalandars, Wiese played a key role as an experienced all-rounder and senior figure within the squad. The franchise credited him for his consistent contributions with bat and ball, his calmness under pressure, and his mentorship of younger players, which it said had been central to the team’s growth and success.
Lahore Qalandars said they fully respected Wiese’s decision to prioritise his family and reiterated their support for the player.
“David has been an integral part of the Lahore Qalandars family and our leadership group for many years,” team owner Sameen Rana said in a statement. “His contributions go far beyond his performances on the field. We respect his decision and look forward to welcoming him back in the coming seasons.”
Wiese said his association with the franchise had extended beyond cricket.
“Being part of Lahore Qalandars has felt like being part of a family,” Wiese said. “The environment, the brotherhood, and the passion within the team make this franchise special. I’m proud of what we’ve built together and hope to return and contribute again in the future.”
Lahore Qalandars will announce a replacement for Wiese ahead of the start of the tournament.
