Arshad Nadeem to feature in Diamond League

LAHORE: Pakistan’s premier javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem although skipper the June 18 Paavo Nurmi Games in Finland due to strain in his calf muscles bir the world silver medallist is out any potential danger and is making preparation for the July 7 Diamond League in Paris, an event which will test his fitness and form ahead of the Olympics.
Arshad these days is preparing here at Lahore under his coach Salman Butt. A big thing is that England-based Dr Ali Sher Bajwa will also accompany Arshad during the Diamond League and Olympics as his accreditation for the world’s most prestigious event has been managed.
This will be the second time that Arshad will be featuring in the Olympics.
He had finished fifth in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics which were conducted in 2021 due to covid.
Arshad is the potential medal winning hope in the Olympics.
Three shooters including Gulfam Joseph, Ghulam Mustafa Bashir and Joseph Gulfam are also set to compete and they are also expected to pull off a historic feat at the biggest stage but Arshad is undoubtedly a more solid hope of a medal for the nation.
The Diamond League will be his first international appearance for Arshad since featuring in the World Championship in Hungary last year where he had won silver medal.
He missed the Hangzhou Asian Games last year in China due to a recurring knee injury before missing out the Asian Throwing Championship in South Korea days after.
Arshad’s personal best throw is 90.18 metre which he had managed in the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games.
