LAHORE: Pakistan Super League’s (PSL) Technical Committee has upheld a two-match suspension imposed on Lahore Qalandars opener Fakhar Zaman for breaching the league’s Code of Conduct, the Pakistan Cricket Board said on Thursday.
Zaman had appealed the sanction handed down by match referee Roshan Mahanama following an alleged ball tampering incident during the Lahore Qalandars’ fixture against Karachi Kings at Gaddafi Stadium on March 29.
The left-handed batsman was found to have violated Article 2.14 of the Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, though specific details of the breach were not publicly disclosed.
The appeal was reviewed by a three-member Technical Committee comprising Professor Javed Malik, Dr Mumraiz Naqshband, and Syed Ali Naqi. After conducting a fresh inquiry, examining evidence and hearing submissions from all relevant parties, the panel rejected Zaman’s appeal.
“The committee, pursuant to a de novo hearing and thorough review of all material on record, has decided to dismiss the appeal and uphold the original sanction,” the league said in a statement.
As a result, Zaman will serve the two-match suspension as initially imposed, dealing a setback to Lahore Qalandars during the ongoing HBL PSL season.
The decision reinforces the league’s stance on maintaining discipline and adherence to its code of conduct amid heightened scrutiny and competitive intensity in one of Pakistan’s premier T20 tournaments.
