PHF forms new selection committee, appoints head coaches

LAHORE: Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) on Tuesday announced national selection committee and appointed head coaches for its senior, junior and under-18 teams as part of efforts to strengthen the sport’s structure and improve international performance.
According to an official notification issued on the recommendations of the PHF Professional Development Committee, former Olympian Samiullah Khan has been appointed chairman of the national selection committee. He will oversee the panel comprising Naeem Akhtar, Kashif Jawad, Muhammad Khalid, Atif Bashir and Nasir Ali.
The federation has also named head coaches across all three formats. Olympian Manzoor-ul-Hasan has been appointed head coach of the senior national team, Ayaz Mahmood will take charge of the junior side, while Qamar Ibrahim has been named head coach of the under-18 team.
Under the newly introduced regulations, the respective head coach will be part of the selection committee during the player selection process to ensure merit-based decisions aligned with team requirements.
The restructuring comes at a crucial time for Pakistan hockey, with the national team set to compete in the final phase of the FIH Pro League in England in June. Pakistan will also participate in the upcoming Hockey World Cup scheduled to be held in Belgium and the Netherlands.
The PHF said the measures are aimed at rebuilding the national setup and delivering improved results on the international stage.
