ABIDJAN (IVORY COAST): Pakistan women football team, ranked 154th, demolished a 195-ranked side Turks and Caicos Islands (TCI) 8-0 in their FIFA Series opener in Abidjan on Thursday, registering the biggest victory in their history.
Four different scorers found the net in a dominant first half as Adeel Rizki’s side seized control early at Stade Alassane Ouattara, before adding four more goals after the break to eclipse their previous best win, a 7-0 result against Maldives in September 2022.
Pakistan signalled their attacking intent from the outset with Mariam Mahmood, fresh off a Welsh league title with Wrexham Women, rattling the side netting from a tight angle inside the opening minutes.
The breakthrough came in the tenth minute when Zahmena Malik finished clinically, before Aqsa Mushtaq doubled the lead two minutes later, slotting home after Mahmood forced a save from goalkeeper Archenie Desir.
Midfielder Layla Banaras extended the advantage past the half-hour mark, capping a weaving run with a composed finish, while Mahmood added a fourth in the 38th minute with a well-taken volley at the back post.
Having pinned their opponents deep for most of the contest, Pakistan maintained their momentum after the interval. Nadia Khan made it 5-0 in the 56th minute with a firm header, before Mushtaq struck her second — a fine effort — in the 76th minute.
Banaras also completed her brace with a precise strike from outside the box and Isra Khan rounded off the scoring five minutes from time to complete the rout.
