Pakistan set to host international handball event

LAHORE: Pakistan is set to organize the International Handball Federation (IHF) Asia Zone III Women Youth and Junior Handball Trophy at the Multipurpose Hall Jhang Road, GC University Faisalabad from April 22-26.
As many as six countries, including hosts Pakistan, will be featuring in the event. They include: Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Pakistan. Mongolia will feature in the junior category while Kyrgyzstan will participate in the youth category. The rest of four nations will feature in both categories.
International referees from Iran, Maldives, Uzbekistan and Thailand and technical delegates from Tunisia and UAE, who have been nominated by the IHF, will conduct the event.
The event will be played on league basis and will be conducted on daily basis from 11am to 6:30 pm.
The last league game will be conducted at 5pm on April 26.
Technical delegates and teams have arrived in Faisalabad.
A senior official of the Pakistan Handball Federation (PHF) told this correspondent that the opening ceremony will be held on April 22 at 10am. The vice-chancellor of the GC University Faisalabad Professor Dr Rauf Azam will inaugurate the event.
Uzbekistan will defend their titles in both categories whereas Pakistan had finished second in the previous IHF Asia Zone III Women Trophy also hosted by Pakistan at the same venue in 2023.
The winners from each category will qualify for the IHF Continental Asia Women Trophy.
The PHF president Mohammad Shafiq, who is also the secretary general of the Asian Handball Federation (AHF) told Nukta that every kind of facilities will be provided to the participating teams. He said that water-tight security arrangements have also been made for the event.
Pakistan teams have trained at the Vehari Danish School for the vital assignment.
