New DG reviews facilities at Pakistan Sports Complex

ISLAMABAD: The newly appointed Director General of the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) Yawar Hussain conducted a comprehensive inspection of sports and administrative facilities at the PSB headquarters late Saturday, signaling a fresh push to upgrade the country’s athletic infrastructure.
The late-night tour of the Islamabad complex aimed to assess facility conditions, review ongoing athlete training, and address operational bottlenecks hindering the development of elite sports in Pakistan. During the visit, Hussain inspected competitive sports venues, athlete training facilities, residential accommodation areas, and administrative offices. Senior facility officials briefed the new chief on the current state of infrastructure, daily operational protocols, urgent maintenance needs, and immediate logistical challenges.
Hussain engaged directly with department staff to gather data on facility utilization rates, athlete support systems, and the progress of active renovation works. He emphasized that local sports venues must meet strict international standards to properly cultivate high-performance athletes capable of competing globally.
“Enhancing the quality of our facilities and services remains an absolute priority,” Hussain told staff during the briefing.
“The Pakistan Sports Board is committed to providing a conducive environment that effectively supports our athletes in achieving excellence at both national and international levels.
“The inspection marks Hussain’s first major operational audit since taking office, as he attempts to establish a baseline for the state’s sports infrastructure. Complex officials provided briefings on current national team training schedules and outlined measures required to improve service delivery for various national sports federations.
Following the review, department heads pledged full cooperation to implement institutional reforms aimed at boosting the efficiency and overall performance of the state sports regulator.
