Leggie Arif Yaqoob happy with his performance against Multan

By our correspondent
LAHORE: It was a day on Friday for Peshawar Zalmi’s leg-spinner Arif Yaqoob, who claimed three wickets on his PSL debut at a crucial stage which helped his franchise beat Multan Sultans by five runs in a nail-biter of the HBL PSL 9 at the Multan Cricket Stadium on Friday night.
Arif, with three first-class matches experience, removed Khushdil Shah, Usama Mir and David Willey to finish with figures of 3-43 in his quota of four overs.
He said that he bowled on the right area which helped.
“I had been given confidence by everyone and I tried to bowl on the right area and thanks God it paid dividends,” Arif told the post-match news conference.
Zalmi on Friday downed Multan by just five runs, their first win in the event so far from three games.
“We kept it simple. We did not play bad cricket in our previous two games as well. Yes, a few mistakes were made there and today we played a bit good cricket and won,” said Arif when asked had they come with any special plan for this game.
“We needed a momentum and by winning this game we have got the required confidence,” he said.
He said conditions did not force him to try many things.
“The conditions were such that did not force me to try more things and I tried to bowl dot balls and did not let them manage strokes freely and in attempting strokes I got wickets,” he said.
He said that he enjoyed the game.
“I first time played a live game and that too in front of such a huge crowd. Yes, pressure was there but I was given good confidence by my team. Initially the pressure was there but latter I enjoyed bowling,” Arif said.
