Fakhar Zaman charged with ball tampering in PSL

LAHORE: Lahore Qalandars opener Fakhar Zaman has been charged with a Level 3 offence under the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) Code of Conduct following an alleged breach of ball tampering regulations during a recent HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL) match against Karachi Kings at the Gaddafi Stadium.
According to an official statement, Fakhar was charged under Article 2.14, which relates to changing the condition of the ball, in violation of Article 41.3 of the PSL 11 playing conditions. The incident in question took place during the second innings of the match.
Fakhar denied the allegation during a disciplinary hearing conducted by match referee Roshan Mahanama. A follow-up hearing has been scheduled within the next 48 hours, after which a final verdict will be issued.
“Level 3 offences are considered serious breaches of the code and can carry heavy penalties, including suspension, depending on the outcome of the hearing,” the PCB said.
In a separate incident from the same match, Karachi Kings fast bowler Hasan Ali was fined ten percent of his match fee for a Level 1 breach of the PCB’s Code of Conduct.
Hasan admitted to violating Article 2.5, which prohibits the use of language, actions or gestures that could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batsman upon dismissal. The incident occurred on the final delivery of the 19th over of Lahore Qalandars’ innings, when Hasan dismissed Haseebullah.
Match officials deemed Hasan’s conduct inappropriate, though the offence fell within the lowest level of breaches. By accepting the charge and sanction, Hasan avoided a formal hearing.
The developments add further scrutiny to on-field conduct in the PSL, with the PCB reiterating its commitment to maintaining discipline and the integrity of the game.
