England conquer Pakistan in the Under-19 World Cup despite Farhan’s fine knock

By Alam Zeb Safi
LAHORE: England Under-19s kept their ICC Men’s Under-19 World Cup campaign on track with a composed 37-run victory over Pakistan Under-19s in their Group C clash at Harare on Friday.
Powered by a patient fifty from Caleb Falconer and a disciplined all-round bowling effort, England posted 210 before bowling Pakistan out for 173 in the 47th over.
After being asked to bat, England lost early wickets but rebuilt steadily through Falconer, who anchored the innings with a well-judged 66 off 73 balls. He shared useful partnerships with Ben Dawkins (33) at the top and later with Ralphie Albert, whose 25 provided late momentum. England’s innings was marked by depth rather than dominance, as contributions came throughout the order despite regular breakthroughs by Pakistan’s bowlers.
Ahmed Hussain was the pick of the Pakistan attack, claiming 3-38, while Ali Raza and Momin Qamar picked up two wickets apiece. England were eventually dismissed for 210 in 46.5 overs, slightly below the maximum but competitive on a surface offering assistance to disciplined bowling.
Pakistan’s reply never quite gathered the required momentum. Early wickets put them under pressure and although captain Farhan Yousaf held the innings together with a fighting 65 off 86 balls, support from the rest of the batting lineup was limited. Only Huzaifa Ahsan (17) and Abdul Subhan (14) managed brief contributions, as wickets fell at regular intervals.
England’s bowlers maintained control throughout the chase. James Minto and Alex Green led the way with two wickets each while Ralphie Albert and Farhan Ahmed chipped in to ensure Pakistan never threatened the target. Tight lines and sharp fielding further dented Pakistan’s hopes with the run rate steadily climbing out of reach.
Pakistan were finally bowled out for 173 in 46.3 overs, handing England a comfortable win and valuable points in Group C. Falconer was named man of the match for his match-defining innings at the top of the order.
