Bukhari, Arshad, Shajar attend National Games Torch Relay

LAHORE: Fayyaz Hussain Bukhari and his pupil and the country’s premier javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem on Saturday attended the 34th National Games Torch Relay ceremony here at the WAPDA Headquarters.
They were seen together after a long time at a picturesque ceremony.
They were also seen holding National Games Torch along with the country’s leading sprinter Shajar Abbas who holds national records in both 100m and 200m.
Bukhari is a big name in Pakistan’s athletics circle, having guided Arshad Nadeem to a fifth-place finish in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics which were conducted after a year’s delay in 2021.
It was Bukhari who worked on Arshad for eight successive years and eventually his efforts paid dividends when Arshad qualified for the Tokyo Olympics with a stunning throw of 86.29m in the South Asian Games in Nepal in 2019.
Under Bukhari Arshad had already lifted the 2018 Asian Games bronze, which in itself was a huge milestone achieved by Arshad.
In early 2021 Arshad bettered his record with an 86.38m throw in an international meet in Iran and it was indeed a rehearsal for Arshad before the Olympics.
After a super finish in the Olympics by Arshad his coach Fayyaz Bukhari was ignored by the authorities but he still loves his pupil Arshad and wants to see him achieve further milestones in his career.
Arshad then finished fifth in the World Championship in US and got golds in the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham and Islamic Games in Turkey last year. His record 90,18m throw in Birmingham has made Asrahd a world beater.
Bukhari these days is busy imparting training to his son Hussain and Pakistan No2 Mohammad Yasir who is preparing for the National Games which already have started in Quetta.
