Arooj, Asra allowed to leave for Hangzhou

LAHORE: Pakistan’s female athletes Sahib-e-Asra and Arooj Kiran were allowed to fly for Hangzhou on Wednesday night to feature in the 19th Asian Games athletics event.
The duo had been stopped the other day from proceeding with the athletics squad to Hangzhou after their dope tests results were withheld which created a doubt over their eligibility.
Sources said that the Athletics Federation of Pakistan (AFP) discussed this matter with the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB). Both bodies reached to a consensus that it would not be a good step to stop them from featuring in the quadrennial event when there is no clarity about their dope tests results.
“It could create another issue so we decided to send them. Yes if their results come before their events and if they are positive then they will be stopped from taking part in the Asian Games,” a source in the AFP told The News.
Sahib-e-Asra is set to feature in the 400m while Arooj will compete in the 100m and 200m in the quadrennial event.
“Yes both will be reaching here soon,” an official of Pakistan’s athletics squad told The News from Hangzhou.
