Army lift boxing general trophy with combined 12 gold medals

Sumama Rahman, Gul Zeb, Fatima Zehra, Maria, Malaika Zahid among those who claim gold medals

KARACHI: Army swept the boxing competition of the 35th National Games at the KPT Sports Complex, winning a combined 12 gold medals across the men’s and women’s divisions to secure the overall trophy with a commanding lead.
Army topped the men’s competition with five gold and four silver medals while their women’s team delivered an even stronger performance, claiming seven gold and one silver to seal the Games’ General Trophy.
In the men’s category, Pakistan Navy finished second with three gold, two silver and two bronze medals while WAPDA secured third place with two gold, two silver and three bronze.
Among women the Higher Education Commission (HEC) claimed second place with one gold, one silver and four bronze, followed by Navy with two silver and four bronze medals.
WAPDA ranked sixth in the women’s standings with one silver and one bronze while Punjab finished fifth with two silver and two bronze medals.
In the men’s division, Sindh secured fifth position with one silver and one bronze but none of Sindh’s women boxers were able to earn a medal.

50kg: Sajid Rasheed (Navy) gold; Muhammad Faheem (Army) silver; Sher Ali (HEC) and Jehanzeb (WAPDA) bronze.

55kg: Sumama Rehman (WAPDA) gold; Qudratullah (Army) silver; Khizar Alam (PAF) and Muhammad Aamir (KP) bronze.

The officials said the Army’s dominance reflected their strong training infrastructure and depth in both men’s and women’s boxing. The competition concluded before a large crowd, bringing the boxing segment of the National Games to a close.
