ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi said on Monday he had secured approval from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for public attendance at all three playoff matches of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
In a post on social media platform X, Naqvi said the prime minister had endorsed spectators for the playoff stage of the tournament, a move likely to enhance fan participation.
However, he noted that the approval came with a condition that spectators should prioritise public transport or minimise fuel consumption when travelling to matches, in line with the government’s ongoing austerity measures.
Sharif also conveyed his best wishes to the four teams competing in the playoffs, Naqvi added, expressing optimism for “exciting and entertaining cricket” in the final phase of the league.
The PSL playoffs mark the climax of Pakistan’s premier Twenty20 competition and typically draw large crowds, with organisers expecting a vibrant atmosphere following the government’s decision.
