Pakistan’s Muhammad Shafiq secures key international handball posts

LAHORE: Muhammad Shafiq, President of Pakistan Handball Federation (PHF), has been elected unopposed as Treasurer of the Commonwealth Handball Association for a second consecutive term, underscoring Pakistan’s growing presence in international sports governance.
Shafiq secured the four-year post at the Commonwealth Handball Association Congress held on December 19 in Cairo. A day later, he was also elected unopposed for a fourth term as Secretary General of the Asian Handball Federation at its elective Congress, also held in the Egyptian capital.
The dual appointments mark a significant achievement for the Pakistan Handball Federation and are being seen as a major honour for Pakistan’s Olympic movement and the country as a whole.
Shafiq, who continues to serve as President of the Pakistan Handball Federation, has played a key role in strengthening administrative cooperation across Asia and the Commonwealth, contributing to the development and promotion of handball at regional and international levels.
His repeated unopposed elections reflect the confidence and trust placed in his leadership by member federations, as well as recognition of his long-standing service to the sport.
Officials described the outcome as a milestone for Pakistan sport, highlighting that Shafiq’s leadership positions enhance Pakistan’s voice in international handball decision-making and reinforce the country’s standing within the global Olympic family.
