LAHORE: Pakistan Wrestling Federation (PWF) has decided to send three wrestlers to Europe next month to feature in the World Beach Wrestling Series.
The country’s premier wrestler and the world beach wrestling king Mohammad Inam, heavyweight wrestler Zaman Anwar and the promising young grappler and the Youth Olympics bronze medallist Inayatullah are being sent to Europe. The PWF has already applied for the Schengen visas for the trio.
There are three series of the World Beach Wrestling and the finals. France hosted the first series last month. Italy will host the Roma Beach Wrestling World Series from September 3-4. It will be followed by the Katerini Beach Wrestling World Series to be held from September 10-11 in Greece. The finals will be hosted by Constanta, Romania, from September 25-26.
Before this event, Inayat is expected to feature in the Beach Wrestling World Championship (Cadets and Juniors) to be held in Constanta, Romania, from September 23-24. If the wrestlers are able to get visas then they will fly out of Lahore for Italy on September 2. The PWF is also being helped by a baseball official in terms of boarding and lodging in Europe. The same official is being sent with the grapplers.
Inam, being the winner of 2017 and 2018 World Beach Wrestling Championships held in Turkey and gold medallist of 2019 Doha World Beach Games, is expected to get points despite missing the series in France if he is able to appear in the second series in Italy. Inam missed the first series due to visa issue.
Inam has been in top shape and this correspondent has learnt that he is undergoing tough training in Gujranwala. Zaman also is doing training at the same city while Inayat, son of former national champion Zahid Khan, is undergoing training at his own academy in Peshawar. Inayat had been nursing injury but now he is fit and is ready for the Europe tour.
