TOKYO: Pakistan volleyball team landed in Tokyo today to feature in the 21st Asian Seniors Men’s Volleyball Championship which will begin here at Chiba on September 12.
“Yes we have reached just now and are in the airport,” a team source told this correspondent from Tokyo Airport.
Pakistan have been clubbed in Group B with Thailand, Hong Kong and holders Iran in the 16-team event. Top two teams from each four groups will make it to the quarter-finals league. The remaining eight teams will then contest for 9th to 16th places.
The country’s experienced professional spiker Aimal Khan is leading the side which has been returning to international circuit after a long time due to covid issues. It would be a testing event for Iranian coach Rahman Mohammadirad who is on his first assignment as Pakistan coach since joining the nation as its head coach around two and a half months ago. The top two teams from the event will make it to the World Championship which will be hosted by Russia in 2022.
