LAHORE: Pakistan are set to face India in their Super Four opener of the Asia Cup in UAE tonight.
India had defeated Pakistan by seven wickets in their Group game. The Green-shirts had completely failed to resist in the game which was marred by no handshake controversy which forced the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to write to ICC that match referee Andy Pycroft will not stand in any game involving Pakistan. Initially the ICC rejected Pakistan’s request but the PCB sent another letter and warned that Pakistan will boycott the UAE game if Pycroft was not removed.
And eventually on the Pakistan-UAE game day following a huge suspense Pycroft apologised and the matter was settled.
Indian players did not do handshake with Pakistani players following a win against them.
India on paper is good side but today it is highly expected that the Green-shirts will put in their best to put their arch-rivals in trouble.
Pakistan’s batting has been a huge concerns ahead of the crucial tie against India. The batsmen will need to play sensible cricket as partnerships will be direly needed to post a good total or chase a solid target.
India have strong batting line-up and their bowling have the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Kuldeep Yadav, Varun Chakravarthy and Axar Patel which have the capacity to unsettle even the best of the oppositions in the UAE conditions which favour the spinners.
Pakistan are likely to bring in Hussain Talat in place of Hasan Nawaz in order to add to the all-round zone which also has Faheem Ashraf and Mohammad Nawaz.
It would be interesting to see how both nations react on the field following no handshake controversy. On Saturday both sides also did not hold pre=match customary press conferences.
The team which will keep their nerves may emerge victorious in the game which matters the most.
