PESHAWAR: Khyber District created history when they won the 15th Inter-district Judo Championship which concluded at Qambar Khel, Khyber district, the other day. The last year’s winners Peshawar finished as runners-up in the three-day event.
Khyber District claimed four gold, one silver and one bronze to wear the crown for the first time while Peshawar clinched one gold, two silver and one bronze. Malakand with one gold, one silver and one bronze captured third position while Dir got two silvers and one bronze medal.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Judo Association in collaboration with Khyber District Judo Association organized the event in which more than 110 athletes from 16 different districts from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa took part. Masood Ahmed, vice-president Pakistan Judo Federation (PJF) along with Haji Niaz Wali Afridi, Speaker Awami Inqalabi League, inaugurated the championship.
The championship provided a wonderful opportunity for the judokas to improve their skills, share their experiences and establish friendships. Organising secretary Noor Shah Afridi congratulated all participants and distributed trophies and medals among the winners besides presenting souvenirs to officials.
He said after the Covid-19 pandemic they will hold National Judo Championship in collaboration with the PJF.
