Pakistan go down against India to finish fourth in Asian Champions Trophy

DHAKA: Pakistan went down fighting against India 3-4 to finish fourth in the men’s hockey Asian Champions Trophy which concluded here today.

India got onto the scoresheet in the second minute when Harmanpreet Singh netted a fine goal for them in the second minute through penalty corner. Afraz levelled the score for Pakistan in the tenth minute. Abdul Rana then put Pakistan ahead in the 33rd minute through a short corner before Sumit scoring an equaliser in the 45th minute. Varun Kumar then struck in the53rd minute through a penalty corner to put India 3-2 ahead. Akashdeep Sindh further strengthened India’s lead in the 56th minute. A minute later Ahmed Nadeem reduced the deficit for Pakistan but it was not enough.

Meanwhile in the final South Korea defeated Japan 4-2 on penalty shootout after the show was levelled 3-3 in the regulation time.

Bangladesh got fifth position in the five-team event.
