MULTAN: The Pakistan Premier Football League (PPFL) begins at the Qasim Bagh Stadium here tomorrow.
Former four-time champions WAPDA will meet Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) in the opening game at 8pm. SSGC, captained by international Saddam Hussain, have already conducted a couple of training sessions in Multan. WAPDA, meanwhile, have made top preparations for the league. WAPDA’s combination is a mixture of youth and experience and it is expected that their performance would be good during the season.
In the other match of the day former two-time champions Army will take on Pakistan Air Force (PAF) at 10 pm. Army have formed a completely young team for the season. In the Multan leg 42 matches will be held while the showpiece will then be shifted to Rawalpindi, Quetta and Karachi. Multan leg will conclude on September 12. The teams will also be awarded match bonuses also. The winners of a match will be given Rs30,000, the losers to claim Rs20,000 and in case of a draw either sides will get richer by Rs25,000 each. Omar Zia said that the cash awards for the event’s winners will be announced later.
Khan Research Laboratories (KRL), a record five-time winners, will defend the title. The last league had been organised in 2018-2019 season. The teams set to feature in the event include KRL, WAPDA, Army, PAF, Navy, SSGC, SNGPL, Karachi United, Lyallpur FC, Muslim FC, Huma Club and PCCA. The PFF chief Syed Ashfaq Hussain Shah will not be present during the opening ceremony as he has been suffering from covid 19. The PFF vice-president and the PTI MNA from Multan Malik Amir Dogar will open the event.
