Sindh’s batting fails as Northern dominate day-1; Southern Punjab post 166 against KP

KARACHI: Mohammad Imran hit 64 as Southern Punjab declared their first innings against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa at 166-9 on the first day of their eighth round fixture of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2021-2022 here at the SBP Sports Complex on Monday (today).

After the top and middle order failed to click, fast bowler Mohammad Imran had to get the best out of his batting talent and he did a marvellous job by scoring fifty, hitting four sixes and the same number of fours in his 129-ball fine knock. Yousuf Babar (28) and opener Tayyab Tahir (26) were the only other batters who showed some resistance. Fast bowler Arshad Iqbal was the pick of the bowlers with 4-41 in 14.1 overs while stand-in skipper Asif Afridi and lanky pacer Irfanullah Shah got two wickets each.

KP were 45-2 in 20 overs in response with opener Ashfaq Ahmed batting on 15 and with him at the other end was night watchman Arshad Iqbal who is yet to open his account.

Meanwhile in the other fixture here at the UBL Sports Complex, Northern dominated the day against Sindh. Sindh declared their first innings at 98 in order to deny their opponents a bonus point. Omair Bin Yousuf top-scored 33 while Mir Hamza in the end made 18 not out.

Athar Mahmood got 4-23 and Kashif Ali claimed 3-42. Musa Khan captured 2-19.

Northern were 136-2, in response, with skipper Umar Amin batting on 69 which came off 175 balls and had 11 fours. After Northern lost their first two wickets for only 18 on the board Umar Amin shared 118 runs for the third wicket unbroken stand with Sarmad Bhatti who chipped in with unbeaten 53 off 143 balls. He struck six fours in his nice knock.

Sohail Khan got 2-39 in 12 overs.

In another outing here at the NBP Sports Complex, Shan Masood (102) hammered a solid century as Balochistan reached 283-5 in 86 overs in their first innings against Central Punjab. Shan added 157 runs for the opening stand with Test discard Imran Butt who fell for 65 off 202 balls, hitting seven fours and one six.

Ayaz Tasawar was batting on 36 and Kashif Bhatti on 30 when bails were drawn. Hussain Talat and Zafar Gohar got two wickets each.
