LAHORE: Mohammad Rizwan has a great chance to join West Indies Chris Gayle and New Zealand Brendon McCullum on elite list for scoring the most number of successive fifties in international T20 cricket if he is able to score fifty in the third and final T20 International against South Africa here at Gaddafi Stadium Lahore on Sunday (today).
McCullum had scored four successive fifties against West Indies (59, Dec 28, 2008, Hamilton), Australia (61, Sydney, Feb 15, 2009), India (56, Christchurch, Feb 25, 2009) and India (69, Wellington, Feb 27, 2009).
Gayle then equalled his record when he completed scoring four successive fifties in 2012. Gayle scored fifties against New Zealand (85, Laudenhill, June 30, 2012), New Zealand (53, Laudenhill, July 1, 2012), Australia (54, Colombo, Sept 22, 2012), and England (58, Pallekelle, Sept 27, 2012). Mohammad Rizwan has hit so far three fifties (2 fifty plus and a century) against New Zealand (89, Napier, Dec 22, 2020), South Africa (104, Lahore, Feb 11, 2021) and South Africa (51, Lahore, Feb 13, 2021).
Before Rizwan Shahid Afridi, Umar Akmal, Babar Azam and Mohammad Hafeez also have to their credit three fifties each in successive innings in T20 Internationals.
Hafeez has the distinction of scoring three fifties in successive innings two times in 2012-2013 and 2020.
