MUZAFFARABAD: Sharjeel Khan’s terrific 141 went in vain as Rawalakot Hawks rode on a fine unbeaten century from Kashif Ali to defeat Mirpur Royals by four wickets in the second eliminator to set up a final date with Muzaffarabad Tigers in the inaugural edition of the Kashmir Premier League here today (Monday).
Se to score 237, Rawalakot Hawks raced to the target with two balls to spare after losing six wickets in the process. The hero of Hawks was Kashmir-born Kashif Ali who hammered 114 not out.
The 23-year old Essex 2nd XI player added 95 runs for the fourth wicket with Hussain Talat who fell for a fiery 22-ball 51, hammering seven sixes and two fours. Kashif smashed eight sixes and nine fours in his swashbuckling 51-ball knock. Shahid Afridi, the skipper, made a 13-ball 19. Amad Butt got 3-40 in his four overs while Sameen Gul captured 2-40 in his quota of four overs.
Earlier, it was Sharjeel’s day. The hard-hitting opener banged 12 sixes and the same number of fours to guide Shoaib Malik-led Mirpur Royals to a huge total of 236-4 in the allotted 20 overs.
Sharjeel faced just 63 balls during his glorious effort. Mohammad Akhlaq, the stumper, continued his fine batting, smacking a 21-ball 29, hammering two sixes and the same number of fours. Mukhtar Ahmed chipped in with a 17-ball 21, striking four fours.
Mirpur-born 19-year old medium pacer Zaman Khan was the pick of the bowlers with 2-18 in four overs. Left-armer Waqas Maqsood (1-51) and Shahid Afridi (1-22) got one wicket each. Aleem Dar and Shozab Raza supervised the match. The final between Rawalakot Hawks and Mohammad Hafeez-led Muzaffarabad Tigers will be held tomorrow at 7pm.
