Pakistan-West Indies opening T20 abandoned due to rain

KARACHI: The first T20 match of the four-match series between Pakistan and West Indies at Bridgetown was abandoned due to rain today.

After the match was reduced to nine overs a side due to heavy rain West Indies, after being invited to bat first, posted 85-5 with skipper Kieron Pollard scoring nine-ball 22 not out, striking two sixes and one four. Nicholas Pooran made an 11-ball 13, which also featured two sixes.

Hasan Ali was the pick of the bowlers with 2-11 in two overs. Debutant pacer Mohammad Wasim Junior picked 1-20 in two overs, claiming the wicket of Chris Gayle (7). Mohammad Hafeez (1-12) and Usman Qadir (1-6) also were among the wickets. Rain started again after the West Indies completed the innings. The next match will be held on Saturday.
