Pakistan overwhelm holders West Indies in first warm-up game

DUBAI: Pakistan beat holders West Indies by seven wickets in their first warm-up game ahead of the T20 World Cup here at the ICC Academy on Monday night.

Chasing 131, skipper Babar Azam (50) and Fakhar Zaman (46*) did well to make their team home safely with 27 balls to spare.

Babar hammered one six and six fours in his 41-ball knock on a slow track. After losing Mohammad Rizwan (13) early, bowled by Rampaul, Babar added 58 runs for the second wicket stand with Fakhar, who struck two sixes and four fours in his 24-ball fiery knock.

Shoaib Malik made 11-ball 14 not out and added 37 runs for the fourth wicket unbroken stand with Fakhar. Hayden Walsh was the pick of the bowlers with 2-41 in 3.3 overs.

Earlier, Shaheen Afridi, Hasan Ali and Haris Rauf took two wickets apiece to restrict West Indies to 130-7. Shimron Hetmyer top-scored 24-ball 28, striking three fours while skipper Kieron Pollard’s ten-ball 23 with five fours and Lendi Simmons’s 23-ball 18 were the other major contributions.
