SHARJAH: Buoyed up by their huge ten-wicket win over India in their opening game on Sunday Pakistan will face New Zealand in what could be a sensational game of the Group 2 of the Super-12 stage of the ICC T20 World Cup here at the Sharjah Stadium on Tuesday (today).
The match begins at 7pm.
This would be the first game from the Black Caps who last month withdrew unilaterally from the Pakistan tour just hours before the first ODI in Rawalpindi on September 17 after receiving some potential security threats whose information was shared by the Global intelligence comprising five major nations of the world also including the United States.
Pakistan’s skipper Babar Azam following his charges superb win over India told his team that they should not become overexcited as it was just the start to the tournament and they are to win the World Cup.
He told the team that it will have to show character and should not get relaxed as it often happened in the past and will remain tough during the entire event. The emotions would definitely be there especially in the Pakistan camp because of the recent cancellation of series by New Zealand against them which also hurt Pakistan’s preparations for the World Cup.
Despite not having played any series the Green-shirts own domestic event helped them prepare well for the World Cup and they have shown how in super form their players are with a gutsy win over India, who is touted as one of the best T20 teams in the world.
So far overall 24 T20 matches have been played between the two nations with Pakistan winning 14 and New Zealand pocking ten victories. This will be the first time both countries will meet at Sharjah. In the last five matches Pakistan have won three while two have been won by the Kiwis. Both nations have met five times in T20 World Cup with Pakistan winning three while New Zealand sealing victories in two outings.
