CHARSADDA: Charsadda were crowned champions when they defeated Bannu by six wickets in the final of the City Cricket Association Khyber Pakhyunkhwa Under-19 Cricket tournament thanks to an all-round show from Najab Khan.
At the Sardheri Club lush green ground Najab picked 3-29 in eight overs through his right-arm leg-break bowling to enable Charsadda to fold Bannu for 189 in the 49th over.
Najab then hammered an unbeaten 56 as Charsadda chased the target in the 43rd over.
After opting to bat first Bannu faced early hiccups as they were at one stage reduced to 43-3. However at that stage Jamshed Ali Khan (50) and Shakirullah (49) did a fine job with the willow by adding 45 runs for the fourth wicket stand to make some recovery. After the partnership was broken Bannu kept losing wickets at regular intervals and were folded for a seemingly low total.
Jamshed hammered seven fours and one six in his 65-ball fifty while Shakir smacked five fours in his 77-ball feat. Abrar Ahmad made valuable 36-ball 31 in the end, smacking one four and two sixes. Najab Khan was ably backed by the front-line pacers Mohammad Sohaib and Shakeel Khan with two wickets each.
In response, Abdullah Zareen (54) and Najab Khan (57*) did a wonderful job with solid fifties to enable Charsadda reach the target in the 43rd over after losing four wickets. Salahuddin got 2-26 in his quota of ten overs. Mohammad Umar captured 1-29. Najab Khan was adjudged as man of the final for his fine all-round performance.
