Bagh Stallions beat Kotli Lions in their KPL opener

MUZAFFARABAD: Bagh Stallions overwhelmed Kolti Lions by five wickets in their opener of the Kashmir Premier League (KPL) here on Saturday.

Kolti Lions rode on the batting heroics of Ahsan Ali (51), Saif Badar (39) and Asif Ali (39) to accumulate 169 all out. Ahsan, who hit six fours and a six in his 37-ball fine effort, added 57 runs for the fourth wicket stand with Saif Badar who fell after hitting three sixes and one four in his brisk 27-ball knock. Asif Ali then dominated the fifth wicket stand of 44 which came off 26 balls with Saif to take Kotli Lions to post a good total in the end.

Mohammad Imran (3-25) and Umaid Asif (3-30) bowled really well for Stallions.

In response, Bagh Stallions raced to the target with two balls to spare after losing five wickets in the process. Asad Shafiq top-scored 43 not out, having hit four fours and one six in his 27-ball knock. Iftikhar Ahmed made a 19-ball 29 with three fours and one six while Aamer Yamin hit a 16-ball 27 with two fours and two sixes. Imran Khan Senior bowled really well, claiming 3-30 while Khurram Shahzad captured 2-37.

In the other game of the day Muzaffarrabad Tigers defeated Overseas Warriors by seven wickets. Sohaib Maqsood (52*) and Sohail Akhtar (58*) shared 86 runs for the fourth wicket unbroken stand to enable Muzaffarabad Tigers achieve the 154-run target in 17.2 overs after losing three wickets.

Sohaib hammered four fours and two sixes in his 39-ball fine knock while Sohail smashed three sixes and seven fours in his 24-ball fiery innings. Kamran Ghulam picked 2-32 in his quota of four overs with his left-arm spinners.

Earlier, Overseas Warriors rode on batting heroics of skipper Imad Wasim (34), Nasir Nawaz (31) and Sohail Khan (26*) to post 153-8. Spinner Usma Mir picked 3-18 while medium pacer Arshad Iqbal got 2-35.

In the inaugural game of the inaugural edition on July 6, Shahid Afridi-led Rawalakot Hawks defeated Mirpur Royals by 43 runs. Ahmad Shehzad (69) and Bismillah Khan (59) shared 125 for the opening stand to enable Rawalakot Hawks post 194-6.

Amad Butt got 3-20 and Salman Irshad captured 2-37. In response, Mirpur Royals were restricted to 151-8 with Shoaib Malik making a rapid 51-ball 77, hammering five sixes and six fours. Zaman Khan, Asif Afridi and Shahid Afridi got two wickets each.
