Abbas’s double strike puts Pakistan on top after the visitors post 217 in their first innings

KINGSTON: Fawad Alam and Faheem Ashraf shared a solid partnership as Pakistan were bowled out for 217 in their first innings on the opening day of their first Test of the two-match Test series against the West Indies here on Thursday.

Fawad struck a solid 56 off 117 balls while Faheem made 44 off 66 deliveries as the duo shared vital 85 runs for the sixth wicket stand to save Pakistan from utter humiliation. Fawad, who was bowled by Holder, struck six fours in his fine knock.

Faheem, who got run out, smacked eight fours in his responsible knock. Skipper Babar Azam (30) and Mohammad Rizwan (23) were the other main contributors after Pakistan were invited to bat first.

Jayden Seals was the pick of the bowlers with 3-70 in 16 overs while Kemar Roach captured 2-47 in 16 overs. In response West Indies were reduced to 2-2 in four overs with pacer Mohammad Abbas getting rid of Kieron Powel (09) and Nikrumah Bonner (0) off his two successive deliveries that put Pakistan on the top at stumps.

Abbas finished the day with 2-0 in two overs.
