ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s experienced female athlete Najma Parveen faltered badly in the 200 metre heats of the athletics competitions in the Tokyo Olympics on Monday (today).
Najma finished seventh in her heat carrying seven athletes and ended at the final spot out of 41 athletes competed. She clocked 28.12 seconds of timing, well-below her personal best of 23.69 which she had clocked in the 13th South Asian Games in Nepal in December 2019 which had earned for her silver medal.
Najma entered the Olympics in a controversial manner. Athletics Federation of Pakistan (AFP) had declined her entry while Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) then reinstated it. The AFP knew that the WAPDA athlete had not trained well and so it was not a good idea to send her to Tokyo.
This was the second time that Najma competed in the Olympics. She had made her Olympics debut in 2016 Rio Games.
