VICTORIA: Pakistan’s top horse rider Usman Khan through his horse Azad Kashmir finished fourth in the FEI CCI 4* cross country event of the Tonimbuk International Horse Trials in Victoria, Australia, on Sunday.
Usman has already made Pakistan proud after making a niche in this summer Tokyo Olympics. But he will have to maintain his position till the end of the qualifying rounds.
Usman lives permanently in Australia and has been working hard for over a decade to make Pakistan proud on self-finance basis.
Tonimbuk International Horse Trials is Olympic Qualifying round. Pakistan Equestrian who has been allocated Olympic quota (17 Feb) for the first time in national history competed and took 4th place after ‘Azad Kashmir’ clears cross country in trying weather conditions. This is the only second time in our national history that Pakistan has managed to bag 4th place in FEI CCI 4 star level event. The position strengthens Pakistan Olympic Group F position by few points. Usman’s previous 4th place had come in 2018 with horse Al Buraq.
Tonimbuk Horse trials has been running at the current venue for 20 years and remains one of the most popular events on the calendar. After the cancellation of the 2019 event due to the devastation of the cross country course from bush fires, 2020 will see many new jumps over different tracks. The terrain will still be a mix of open and bush over undulating land. The FEI jumping course run indoors on Saturday evening always draws large crowds.
