KARACHI: Lahore Qalandars skipper Sohail Akhtar said they got enough time to adjust in the Abu Dhabi weather, adding almost every person of his brigade has been playing regular cricket.
“The break which has come definitely has broken the momentum. But the best thing is that all our cricketers have come after playing cricket at various levels.Luckily some players of our team have come into this league after playing international cricket and that is why our team has not been affected more. We got enough time to adjust,” Sohail told a virtual news conference.
“As professional cricketer we are used to playing in any sort of conditions and weather,” “As far as Ben Dunk is concerned so he is right now and have recovered from a minor injury,” Sohail said that they would sit this evening (Tuesday) to form a combination. “Abu Dhabi ground is lucky for me and for Lahore Qalandars. InshAllah we will go back home while taking good memories. “We have a good combination and the attitude of foreign players is also very good. It would not be an issue for newcomers in our team as we have a very good environment. All are gelled, enjoying and will try our level best to field a very good team,” he said.
“All teams are balanced. You cannot take any team lightly in T20 cricket. The team which gets momentum becomes dangerous. We have six league games in hand and we will try to take Karachi-leg momentum into the Abu Dhabi-leg. We don’t think that we will all matches. We plan for game to game and will go that way,” Sohail said.
“Rashid Khan is a world-class bowler and his presence will be very important for us. His batting is also very good and we hope his performances remain effective for Lahore Qalandars,” he added.
“David Wiese had been very good for us and had finished a few games and although his absence will be felt, we have brought in James Faulkner in his place. He is a good all-rounder and I hope he will never let us feel the absence of Wiese,” Sohail said.
“Lahore-Karachi rivalry is in the media as we enjoy playing cricket with each other. If your brother also comes in front you also seriously compete against him. In LQ’s High Performance Centre we play the entire year. International cricketers also come during off-days and we also play matches as we also have the ground facility and it benefits us. The hard work which we have done there we will try to deliver here.”
“We don’t keep in mind the past performance. Currently we are on track and InshaAllah you see and you will see a new Qalandars. We are working hard and hopefully we will put in a good performance,”
“If a lion does not hunt for a few days he forgets how to hunt. Yes we have this in mind as Shaheen Afridi is Pakistan’s asset and if we feel he needs rest at any stage we will definitely give him rest and will not put on him extra burden. But he is looking fit and is working hard,” he said.
“Weather is not in our control. The facilities we have at our disposal we will try to get their best use to beat the heat. As such we don’t have any issue as we are used to it. Yes Australian cricketers have little bit of issue as they have come from 4 degree Celsius back home but they are trying to adjust and it will take a couple of days,” “Yes toss will play a role. The dew factor will be equal for both the teams. There was dew for one or two nights, not more. In the evening the weather is not that hot,” he said.
He said Lahore Qalandars’ strength is fast bowling, adding they also have world-class spinners and they will go for a combination accordingly.
