Alex Hales guides Karachi Kings to a crucial win over Islamabad United

RAWALPINDI: Alex Hales’s blistering fifty and skipper Imad Wasim’s late blitz enabled Karachi Kings overwhelm Islamabad United by five wickets in their fourth round outing of the HBL PSL 2020 here at the Pindi Cricket Stadium Rawalpindi on Sunday.

Hales blasted 30-ball 52 with three sixes and three fours while Imad hammered a 15-ball 32 not out with two sixes and two fours as Kings achieved the 184-run target with eight balls to spare.

Earlier after losing Babar Azam, who got run out for nought without facing a ball, Sharjeel Khan set momentum with a fiery 20-ball 38, smashing four sixes and three fours to provide a good foundation. The left-handed Sharjeel added 57 runs for the second wicket stand with Hales.

Cameron Delport then struck 28-ball 38 with three sixes and one four, shared 64 runs for the third wicket with Hales to consolidate the position.

Jamaica-born gloveman Chadwick Walton then hammered unbeaten 17-ball 23 to contribute in his team’s solid win.

South African’s paceman Dale Steyn, who made his PSL debut, got 1-37. Ahmed Safi Abdullah (1-21) and  Rumman Raees (1-27) were the other wicket-takers.

Earlier Luke Ronchi (85*) and skipper Shadab Khan (54*) shared 106 for the fourth-wicket unbroken stand to take their Islamabad United to a good total of 183-3 in the allotted 20 overs after being invited to bat first.

Ronchi smashed two sixes and nine fours from 58 deliveries while Shadab smacked four sixes and three fours from 31 deliveries.

Imad Wasim (1-31), Mohammad Amir (1-40) and Ahmed Safi Abdullah (1-21)  got one wicket each.

Alex Hales was adjudged as man of the match.

Ranmore Martinesz and Tariq Rasheed supervised the match.

Mohammad Anees was the match referee.

The win took Kings to four points from four games. Islamabad United have five points from six outings.

On Monday (today) Kings will meet Peshawar Zalmi at the same venue.
